ITINERARY


Day 1: Toulouse - Carcassonne

Arrival in Toulouse and welcome by your driver guide. Transfer to Carcassonne. Guided tour of the Mediaeval Citadel of Carcassonne, Unesco Heritage Site. Dinner and overnight in Carcassonne. (D,O)

Day 2: Full day tour vineyards

Breakfast at your hotel. Pick up at your hotel by your driver-guide and short drive to the Château Auzias in Pennautier for a guided visit of the vineyards and winery. This chateau is "certainly one of the greatest private vineyard in the Languedoc region thanks to its 160 hectares”. Wine tasting session in the wine cellars. Suggested lunch at the restaurant au Château Pennautier, followed by a visit of the wine cellars. Drive across Carcassonne to Minerve, located at the foothills of the Black Mountain. You will visit the fortified medieval village perched on a naturally defended rocky peninsula high above a canyon. Then you will enjoy a visit & wine tasting session in the wine cellars of Ostal Cazes in La Livinière. The owners are passionate about wine and have devoted themselves to researching and developing its quality. Back to Carcassonne. Dinner in a traditional restaurant. Overnight at your hotel in Carcassonne. (D,O)

 

Day 3: Montauban - Cahors - Sarlat 

Breakfast at your hotel. Pick up at your hotel by your driver-guide and departure for Montauban, France’s oldest “bastide” or fortified town, founded in 1144 and built in the distinctive pink bricks of the region. Then it’s a guided tour of Cahors, with its Roman monuments, medieval quarter and famous 14th century fortified Pont Valentré bridge. This afternoon features a visit and wine tasting at Château Lagrézette (or similar) in the Ca-hors vineyards. This 15th century château was rediscovered by luxury entrepreneur Alain Dominique Perrin in 1979, and his love for the region and its wines has helped him to develop the elegant and refined vintages of Château Lagrézette. Drive to Sarlat. Settle in your 3-star Hotel Le Renoir (or) 4-star Hotel de Selves in Sarlat where you will be accommodated for 2 nights. Dinner in a traditional restaurant. Overnight at your hotel in Sarlat. (B,D,O)

 

Day 4: Lascaux VI - Sarlat

Breakfast at your hotel. Pick up by your driver-guide and departure for a tour of Sarlat, the exceptionally well-preserved medieval city and capital of the Péri-gord Noir region. Then it’s back in time to Lascaux IV, for an immerse experience of Europe’s most stunning prehistoric cave paintings, followed by a visit to the stunning Musée National de Préhistoire at Les Eyzies-deTayat. Built on the face of a striking cliff and containing over 18,000 prehistoric items discovered in the neighboring Vézère Valley, the Museum’s unique archaeological collections offer an extensive overview of the Paleolithic past of this region of France. Dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight at your hotel in Sarlat. (B,D,O)

Day 5: Saint Emilion - Bordeaux

Breakfast at your hotel. Pick up at your hotel by your driver-guide and departure for Saint-Émilion. Enjoy a walking tour of the medieval city of Saint-Émilion, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the centers of Bordeaux winemaking. Saint-Émilion’s other specialty is the macaron - unlike the brightly coloured filled macarons of today, these were created in 1620 by Ursuline nuns. The secret recipe was passed down through the centuries, and today Nadia Fermigier is the only custodian of the authentic recipe. You’ll enjoy a visit at the Fermigier shop, followed by a macaron-tasting session. In the afternoon, enjoy a visit and wine tasting at Château de Sales (or similar), ranked Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion. Back to Bordeaux. Settle in your 3-star Hotel Quality Sainte Catherine (or) 4-star Hotel de Seze in Bordeaux where you will be ac-commodated for 4 nights. Dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight at your hotel in Bordeaux. (B,D,O)

Day 6: Cooking Class

Breakfast at your hotel. Pick up at your hotel by your driver guide, and drive to the one Michelin-starred restaurant Le Saint-James for a half-day hands-on cooking class under the expert guidance of Head Chef Nicolas Magie and his team. For all ages and abilities, classes include forays into sweet and savory themes, introductions to snacking, oenology and gastronomic classics - the perfect place to learn how to be a great chef in your own home. You’ll enjoy the fruits of your labor over lunch, including wine. The afternoon sees a guided tour of Bordeaux – discover how the city was dominated by the wine trade from the Middle Ages to the prosperous 18th century and beyond. Dinner at leisure Overnight at your hotel in Bordeaux. (B,D,O)

Day 7: Arcachon

Breakfast at your hotel. Pick up at your hotel by your driver guide and departure for the Bassin D’Arcachon, a vast bay on the Atlantic coast some 45 minutes from Bordeaux. Embark on a traditional boat for a cruise around the bay, the iconic “cabane tchanquée” stilt houses and spectacular views of the Île aux Oiseaux and the Dune du Pilat – the highest sand dune in Europe. Savor a lunch of local oysters and white wine before an afternoon at leisure, exploring the town of Arcachon. Back to Bordeaux and overnight at your hotel. (B,O)

Day 8: Full day tour of Medoc

Breakfast at your hotel. Pick up at your hotel by your driver-guide and departure for the famous 'Route des Vins' where you’ll discover some of the most prestigious names and châteaux – and of course, wine tasting sessions are on the program today! From Pauillac to Margaux along the banks of the Gironde river, you’ll visit Château Haut-Brion (or similar) in Pessac Leognan, Château Pichon Longueville Baron (or similar) in Pauillac and Château Lascombes (or similar) in Margaux – all ranked Grand Cru Classé. Return to Bordeaux. To-night, enjoy a gourmet dinner in a local restaurant ; Overnight at your hotel in Bordeaux. (B,O)

Day 9: Bordeux
