ITINERARY

Day 1: Maun, Botswana (unescorted)
On arrival at Maun airport you’ll be met and transferred to the Okavango River Lodge. The Okavango River Lodge overlooks the Thamalakane River and is well-known for its mokoro safaris. Huge shade trees are in abundance on the grounds of the Lodge and beyond, so birdwatchers can be sure of spotting a rich variety of bird species. The Lodge has a number of expert guides that regular guide birding walks. A scenic flight over the Okavango Delta can be arranged (optional). Game viewing and fishing trips into the Okavango Delta are also available as optional excursions (for own account). Overnight at Okavango River Lodge. (O)

Day 2: Maun, Botswana
Today you’ll have the opportunity to join an exciting mokoro (dugout canoe) trip. Mokoro trips have become the popular way for travelers to experience the tranquility of the Okavango Delta. Mokoro trips are based on the traditional Bayei method of travelling through the flood plains of the Okavango Delta. On one of the larger islands you will enjoy lunch and a guided walk. There is the possibility of seeing large herds of red lechwe bounding through the water and passing elephants feeding amongst the lush wetland vegetation. After a hearty lunch and walk, you will make your way back to the Mokoro station where the vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to the lodge. Overnight at Okavango River Lodge. (B,O)

Day 3: Nata, Botswana
After breakfast, you will continue to your next destination, Nata Lodge, an oasis set among the Mokolwane palms on the edge of the pans. It is ideally situated to the entrance to the Nata Sanctuary and is just off the main road 10km from the village. This afternoon you will join a salt pan excursion. The area incorporates a multitude of salt pans and vast grass plains dotted by palm islands that form the Great Makgadikagidi which compromises the largest area of salt pans in the world covering some 3 7000sq km in overall extent. It is the last vestiges of Africa’s largest inland sea and exudes an atmosphere of antiquity and mystery. The Nata River delta feeds the Sau Pan in the Nata Sanctuary and forms the breeding ground for a host of water birds including pelicans and flamingo in their thousands, transforming the shoe line into a pink haze blending into the western sky. Overnight at Nata Lodge. (B,O)

Day 4: Chobe, Botswana
After breakfast you will be transferred to Mowana Safari Lodge near the Chobe Game Reserve. Mowana Safari Lodge lies on the banks of the Chobe River, where four African countries – Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe – meet. This afternoon you will have the opportunity to join an afternoon game cruise. The Chobe Game Reserve is famous for its enormous elephant population – it is said that 45 000of these interesting creatures roam the plains of Chobe. They share almost 10 000sq km with lion, leopard, giraffe, cheetah, buffalo, approximately 450 bird species, as well as puku and Chobe bushbuck, which are indigenous to Chobe National Park. Overnight at Mowana Safari Lodge. (B,D,O)

Day 5: Chobe, Botswana
This morning you can enjoy an early morning game drive in the Chobe National Park. You’ll have the opportunity to search for elephant, hippo, buffalo, zebra, hyena, red lechwe, crocodile, sable antelope and impala. Also keep a lookout for leopard, cheetah, wild dog, roan antelope, serval, bat-eared fox, puku and bushbuck. In the afternoon you can enjoy an optional, game cruise on the Chobe river. This unique and relaxing way of game viewing will allow you to view the great African wildlife from a different point of view. Overnight at Mowana Safari Lodge. (B,D,O)

Day 6: Chobe, Botswana
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kasane airport. (B)

Optional - Victoria Falls (unescorted Day 6 - 8)
