ITINERARY

Day 1: Edinburgh
Welcome to Edinburgh! Pick up your car. You can spend the remainder of the day in Edinburgh. With one of the most beautiful cityscapes in the world Edinburgh has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Edinburgh Castle dominates the city-centre skyline and from its ramparts you can look down on medieval lanes and elegant, sweeping terraces that hold over a thousand years of history, mystery and tradition. Other attractions include the Royal Mile and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Royal Familyís official residence in Scotland. Overnight in Edinburgh. (O)

Day 2: Edinburgh - Rosslyn Chapel - Scottish Borders
At the southern gateway to Scotland the seductive Borders region is a land of strong traditions and inspiring heritage sites, a consequence of its turbulent history. You'll discover friendly towns and picturesque villages, as well as the castles, abbeys, stately homes and museums that illustrate the exciting and often bloody history of the area. On the way back to Edinburgh we recommend a visit to the mysterious, richly decorated late-Gothic Rosslyn Chapel, which featured prominently in the blockbuster film and book "The Da Vinci Code". Overnight in Edinburgh. (B,O)

Day 3: Stirling - Oban
Travel north east of Edinburgh to Stirling to visit Stirling Castle, historically one of Scotlandís most important fortresses. You can continue to visit the nearby Wallace Monument and admire one of the finest views Scotland has to offer from the top of the 67m high tower. Continue north passing through the traditional town of Callander and perhaps stop here to visit the Rob Roy Center to learn more about this legendary folk hero before continuing on via Crianlarich to Oban. Your scenic route to Oban accompanies the shore of the beautiful Loch Awe before reaching Inverawe Smokehouse in Taynuilt where you can learn how the salmon is smoked. Overnight in Oban or area. (B,O)

Day 4: Oban - Mull - Staffa
Today, spend the day exploring the beautiful Isles of Mull and Staffa. Take the ferry from Oban to Mull, a spectacular and rocky island with views of some of the most unspoiled and rugged scenery in Scotland. On arrival continue to the southern tip of the island where you can take a boat for a 45 min sea journey to Staffa. These columns form the cathedral-like structure of Fingalís Cave, immortalized by Mendelssohn in his celebrated Hebrides overture. Combine the trip to Staffa with a visit to the island of Iona and visit the abbey built on the site of St Columbaís original monastery founded in 563 AD. Overnight on the Isle of Mull. (B,O)

Day 5: Mull - Mallaig - Isle of Skye
A short ferry ride from Fionnphort on Mull to Lochaline will take you to a scenic route on the sparsely inhabited Morvern and Ardnamurchan peninsulas via Strontian and Salen. Described by many as 'the best kept secret in Scotland', Morvern Peninsula is a must for nature lovers seeking solitude and rare species of wildlife. You reach the port of Mallaig, set in an area of outstanding beauty. Ferry crossing to the Isle of Skye. On arrival you can visit the Armadale Castle, former residence of the McDonald clan, surrounded by its magnificent gardens and housing also the museum of the Isles where you can trace the history of the Highlands and islands. Overnight on the Isle of Skye. (B,O)

Day 6: Isle of Skye
Enjoy your day on this beautiful island. During your tour you can take in the dramatic scenery of the famed Cuillin Mountains. Cross the Island going northwards and visit Dunvegan Castle, the stronghold of the Chiefs of MacLeod for nearly 800 years. Continue touring around the island towards Uig and around the coastal road, stopping to visit the Skye Folk Museum before heading back to the capital of the island, Portree, for some free time. Overnight on the Isle of Skye. (B,O)

Day 7: Kyle of Lochalsh - Fort Augustus - Fort William - Glen Coe - Loch Lomond - Glasgow
Travel back to the mainland via the Skye bridge and visit Eilean Donan Castle, one of the most iconic images of Scotland. Continue for the shores of Loch Ness, most famous for the legend of the illusive monster inhabiting the loch and follow the Great Glen. Travel southwards to Fort Augustus and Fort William nestling in the shadow of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK. Drive through the hauntingly beautiful Glen Coe, scene of the cruel massacre of the Macdonalds by the Campbells and one of Scotlands most dramatic glens en route to Loch Lomond, the largest loch in Great Britain and famous for the tranquil beauty of its wooded shores and islands. You may choose to take a short cruise on the loch taking in the breathtaking scenery or perhaps enjoy a walk through the picturesque village of Luss situated on the banks of Loch Lomond before continuing on to the metropolitan city of Glasgow. Overnight in Glasgow. (B,O)

Day 8: Goodbye
Return your car to Glasgow Airport and join your flight home. (B)
