ITINERARY

Day 1: Edinburgh
Welcome to Edinburgh! Pick up your car. You can spend the remainder of the day in Edinburgh. With one of the most beautiful cityscapes in the world Edinburgh has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Edinburgh Castle dominates the city-center skyline and from its ramparts you can look down on medieval lanes and elegant, sweeping terraces that hold over a thousand years of history, mystery and tradition. Other attractions include the Royal Mile and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Royal Family’s official residence in Scotland. Overnight in Edinburgh. (O)

Day 2: Edinburgh - Perth - Aviemore
Travel north crossing the Forth Road Bridge with its spectacular views of the Firth of Forth before reaching the region of Perthshire with its stunning scenery. Visit the superb Gothic Scone Palace, ancient crowning place of the Kings of Scotland and family home of the Earl and Countess of Mansfield and admire the historical treasures guarded inside. Continue via Dunkeld, with its beautiful medieval cathedral on the banks of Loch Tay to the picturesque Victorian town of Pitlochry to visit Edradour, the smallest whisky distillery in Scotland. Enroute to Aviemore you can explore the impressive Cairngorm Mountains located in the Cairngorm National Park. Why not participate to an entertaining sheepdog demonstration at a working sheep farm this afternoon or visit the Highland Folk Museum at Newtonmore before you reach tonight’s accommodation. Day 3: Aviemore - Inverness - Thurso
The northeast tip of Scotland where your journey takes you today is one of the least explored areas and one of Scotland’s best kept secrets. Continue to Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, and along the north eastern coast of Scotland as the road snakes its way coastline towards Thurso. Perhaps stop at the magnificent Dunrobin Castle at Golspie with its beautiful gardens inspired by the Palais de Versailles in Paris where you can see an exciting falconry display. Overnight in Thurso or area. (B,O)

Day 4: Orkney Islands
Orkney islands capture the imagination and the eye with its Norse roots, breathtaking scenery and the extraordinary perfection of the prehistoric sites of Skara Brae and Maes Howe that predate the Pyramides. The 90 min ferry journey will bring you to Stromness from where you can start your journey to visit the chambered tomb of Maes Howe aligned with the winter solstice. On the tiny island of Lamb Holm you can admire the Italian Chapel built by Italian prisoners of war using their considerable artistic and decorative skills. Late afternoon return to Stromness to board your ferry back to the mainland. Overnight in Thurso or area. (B,O)

Day 5: Thurso - Tongue - Loch Ness - Fort Augustus
Today you will travel west on the single track coastal road in western direction to Tongue from where the road will take you south by the mountains of Ben Loyal and Ben Klibreck to the attractive village of Lairg. Continue in the direction of Inverness and start a most beautiful scenic journey south along the shores of Loch Ness which stretches its bitterly cold waters for 38 km between Inverness and Fort Augustus. Stop at Urquhart Castle, magnificently situated on the banks of the most famous lake in Scotland, and enjoy the breath taking view before you reach your accommodation for tonight. Overnight in Fort William / Fort Augustus area. (B,O)

Day 6: Fort Augustus - Fort William - Glen Coe - Loch Lomond
Today you will follow the famous Caledonian Canal built by Thomas Telford to Fort William, nestling in the shadow of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain. Travel through Glen Coe, one of Scotland’s most dramatic glens and scene of the cruel massacre of the Clan Macdonald by Clan Campbell before heading south to Loch Lomond, the largest loch in the whole of Great Britain and known for the tranquil beauty of its wooded shores and islands. Stop at the village of Luss, one of the prettiest villages in Central Scotland, and take a stroll through the village to admire the picturesque cottages with the pretty gardens. Continue towards Glasgow. Overnight in Glasgow. (B,O)

Day 7: Glasgow
Spend a day in Glasgow. This energetic city with its blend of internationally acclaimed museums and galleries, stunning architecture and fabulous shopping will prove irresistible. Two of Glasgow’s many museums worth visiting are the Burrell Collection with over 9000 works of art and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery with its amazing collection of exhibits. You can stroll along the River Clyde Walkway to discover the rejuvenation on Glasgow’s Waterfront. Or you may choose to wander around the vibrant shopping district in the heart of the city before retiring to your accommodation. Overnight in Glasgow. (B,O)

Day 8: Goodbye
